Start and stop mining from RPC calls?

Is it possible to start and stop mining by using an RPC call? If not, what is the best way to start and stop mining of yourself, without having grant privileges (to revoke your mining privilege and give it back) and without asking someone to revoke your mining privilege and give it back when you wnat to start and stop mining?
