Of course calling something "GBP" on a blockchain does not really make it British pounds. An asset is a blockchain representation of something of value, that can be transferred or exchange between users. There's a separate question as to what that value is, and this depends on who issues the blockchain asset and the legal framework under which that issuance was done.
