Clarification need for the virtual machine concept in multichain?

The concept of  2 virtual machine in multichain is in confused state for me,how can I connect two 2 virtual machines using ubuntu/putty.

I have Installed the multichain in my server with the node creation process .when I  try  to send address for the other node using sendtoaddress command. I got stuck with Error code -5 .
