Is is possible to query the balance or a specified asset for a single or subset of addresses? If not, is it on the dev roadmap?

Not yet - this is a related issue to the general issue regarding wallet segregation:

Adding APIs for separating activity by address is the next feature priority, hopefully in alpha 8.
